The Town and Country Resort and Convention Center is situated on 32 acres of beautiful gardens, with 1,000 guestrooms and suites, over 200,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space, 5 restaurants, 3 lounges, 4 pools and acres of gardens featuring over 5,000 palm trees and flowering plants. A state of the art fitness center and the Bella Tosca European Day Spa is located on the grounds. Located in the geographic heart of San Diego, which boasts America's best climate, the Town and Country is 10 minutes from San Diego's major attractions, including the San Diego International Airport, famous beaches and bays, Old Town filled with Mexican shops and cafes, the world famous San Diego Zoo, Sea World Adventure Park, the downtown waterfront convention center, Seaport Village and the excitement of the Gaslamp district and San Diego's Petco Baseball Park. San Diego's accessible Light Rail Trolley station is on the property with quick connections to all these tourist destinations, and just across the tracks is San Diego's premier shopping destination, Fashion Valley, which also includes a variety of restaurants such as Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, P. F. Chang's China Bistro, 59th & Lex in Bloomingdale's, and the Uno Chicago Grill. Adjacent to Town and Country is the 27-hole championship Riverwalk Golf Course.


RESERVATION INFORMATION FOR BISHOPS AND DELEGATES

Hotel Reservations:

  • You must make your own hotel reservations with Town and Country as soon as possible, either by phone at 1-800-77-ATLAS (-28527) or online by clicking on the following link: (https://resweb.passkey.com/Resweb.do?mode=welcome_ei_new&eventID=8227985). A block of rooms has been reserved for the Conference. 
  • You are expected to arrange for your own roommate, and reserve once for the room (not for each person).
  • Room cost is $132.00 (single or double up to four persons) per night plus tax and other charges. 
  • Rooms available for the same convention rate ($132) three nights prior to, and three nights following, the conference, based on availability.
  • Rooms can generally accommodate up to four persons for the same rate. Limited numbers of rooms are blocked, for our event, at the same rates in the Tower, Garden and Courtyard sections. 
  • You must pay your hotel costs. You will be reimbursed by the WJ Conference at the rate of half the amount charged for a room for three nights, Wednesday evening through Saturday morning. There will be no master billing with the hotel. 
  • Delegates wishing a single room, sharing a room with a non-delegate or family attendees will be responsible for half of the room cost. 
  • Delegates attending official WJ committee meetings prior to the conference, or attending the conference in these roles, will have their rooms covered, or partially subsidized, only as authorized by their WJ committee chairperson. 
  • At check-in upon arrival, the hotel will ask you for a credit card to cover all charges, including incidental expenses such as long distance calls and room service. 

Conference and Meal Registration:

  • You must pre-register for the conference by using the following link: http://cnumc.org/registrations/register/102. All pre-registration will be online. Delegates do not pay a Registration Fee, which is covered by the Western Jurisdiction. Bishops, following protocol, are expected to pay the Registration Fee of $110, then file for reimbursement through their respective episcopacy accounts. Late registrations will be taken up to, and throughout, the conference, however, tickets for the two evening dinners cannot be guaranteed after July 5.
  • Delegates will have a meal allowance of $10 for breakfast, $10 for lunch and $25 for dinner. The meal allowance will cover breakfast and lunch on Thursday, breakfast and lunch on Friday, and meals during travel time to and from the Conference. Thursday and Friday dinners, during the Conference, for voting delegates are paid for by the Conference. No receipts need to be submitted for meals. The allowance will be reimbursed to the attendees based on number of meals eaten.
  • A reduced parking fee for all cars parked at the hotel has been set by Town and Country at $5.00 per day (normally $14/day)
  • For those who drive, we will reimburse at the rate of $.14 per mile. For those who fly, we will NOT use a central travel agency. Many people can get better fares through the internet or their own travel agencies. Please secure tickets far enough in advance so that advance booking reservation discounts can be applied. The WJ will not reimburse for flight change fees. Please submit receipts to the WJC treasurer for travel costs reimbursement (air fare if applicable or mileage).

  • Late registration (entered online after May 21, 2012) is $150.00. Late registrations will be taken up to and throughout the conference, however, tickets for the two evening dinners cannot be guaranteed after July 5.
  • All breakfasts, lunches and dinners during the Conference can be charged to the room at any of the hotel restaurants. Non-delegates are responsible for all room and meal charges at Town and Country.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

TRANSPORTATION FROM SAN DIEGO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO THE TOWN AND COUNTRY RESORT AND CONFERENCE CENTER

A free courtesy shuttle to and from San Diego International Airport will be provided by our WJC Local Host Committee as an alternative to a paid shuttle service. To use this free service of extravagant hospitality by local United Methodists please contact Becky Haase, 818-243-6945, or better by email - haasehaaseb@aol.com, to reserve pick up and return times. Provide your incoming flight arrival time and outgoing flight departure time, email address and cell phone number (if available). The local host will notify you prior to your departure date regarding location and time of pickup at the San Diego airport. The Program and Arrangements team is working on childcare and will provide further information as soon as plans are confirmed.

LIVELY, ENGAGING WORSHIP

We will experience lively, extravagant hospitality through vibrant worship led by our bishops and others. Music during the Conference will be led by Rev. Dave Merkel, pastor of Columbia Falls United Methodist Church in northwest Montana (www.davemerkel.com) who relishes various forms of music when led by the Holy Spirit. More details will be added to this webpage as information as plans develop.

WEDNESDAY MEMORIAL/COMMUNION SERVICE

The traditional Memorial/Communion Service will be held in the lovely sanctuary of San Diego's First United Methodist Church, 2111 Camino Del Rio South San Diego, CA 92108-3697 (Mission Valley west of Texas St); telephone (619) 297-4366. Transportation from the Town and Country Resort will be provided for those without their own. The public is welcome to this service. THURSDAY HERITAGE FOOD BUFFET DINNER AND RETIREMENT CELEBRATION

The conference session includes a wonderful ethnic food buffet dinner at First United Methodist of San Diego (address above), included in the registration cost, in conjunction with a Retirement Celebration for Bishop Mary Ann Swenson. This is the only dinner of the WJC Event where additional meal tickets may be ordered outside the pre-registration process. Tickets are $20 for non-conference guests (attending only the dinner and celebration.

FRIDAY EVENING RECEPTION FOR BISHOPS WITH THEIR NEW EPISCOPAL AREAS

The Jurisdictional Conference concludes with a reception, including heavy hors d'ouervres, for area delegates and participants to greet their Bishops assigned for the new quadrennium.
