We are sharing the following details to update the Church and the public regarding the scheduled trial to adjudicate the complaints against Bishop Minerva Carcaño.

Last week, we announced that trial dates had been set for August 21 through August 25. Today, we are sharing an update on the venue and the trial officers. First United Methodist Church of Pasadena, California, has been chosen as the venue for the trial. Bishop Alfred W. Gwinn, a retired bishop from the Southeastern Jurisdiction, will preside over the trial. Rev. R. Preston Price, a retired elder in the California-Pacific Annual Conference, will serve as secretary.

In sharing this information, The Book of Discipline (2016) continues to direct our steps as we seek a fair process for all. Those interested in understanding the process moving toward and into a trial can review ¶ 2712 and the surrounding paragraphs for more details.

Paragraph 2707 declares that church trials “are to be regarded as an expedient of last resort.” A just resolution is encouraged and can occur at any point, “including through the judicial proceedings. (¶ 2707.5)”

We continue to covet your prayers as we seek God’s wisdom, restoration, and healing for all those involved.

Grace y paz,

Bishop Dottie Escobedo-Frank
President, Western Jurisdiction College of Bishops
Resident Bishop of the Los Angeles Area
