Bridgeforth brings experience, collaborative mindset into new role as bishop

Raised in rural Alabama, Bishop Cedrick Bridgeforth brings a wealth of experience in diverse ministry settings, clergy coaching, teaching, writing, and work in the non-profit world to his role as a newly-elected and consecrated bishop in the Western Jurisdiction of The United Methodist Church. He will serve the Greater Northwest Episcopal Area (which comprises the Alaska, Oregon-Idaho and Pacific Northwest Conferences) beginning Jan. 1, 2023.

Bishops of The United Methodist Church provide spiritual leadership to more than 11 million persons in a broad range of settings on four continents, including North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Historically, bishops preside over Annual and Central Conferences (regional areas of the church). They play an important leadership role in helping to set the direction of the church and its mission throughout the world.

The newly elected bishops from the 2022 WJ Conference are Bishop Carlo A. Rapanut, Bishop Cedrick Bridgeforth, and Bishop Dottie Escobedo-Frank.
